Emma Lee Fleury
Biography & Practice
Emma Lee Fleury is a Canadian multidisciplinary visual artist and musician based in Muskoka, Ontario. Her practice centers on acrylic painting, clay sculpture, and earth-based installations, while extending fluidly into music, performance, and site-responsive work. Across disciplines, Fleury explores humanity’s evolving relationship with the natural world through landscape, material, and atmosphere.
Fleury holds an Honours Bachelor of Arts in Studio Art from Brock University and studied painting, installation, and sculpture at the University of the Fraser Valley in British Columbia. Her work has been exhibited widely across Ontario and Western Canada, including exhibitions and installations with Muskoka Arts & Crafts, Niagara Artists Centre, and numerous festivals, galleries, and public spaces. In 2022, her painting Uprising was featured in the Art Gallery of Ontario’s community-based exhibition. In 2020, she was awarded the Standards Readers’ Choice Diamond Award for Best Local Artist and has since received multiple nominations recognizing excellence in both visual art and music.
Rooted in environmental observation and research, Fleury’s visual work responds to climate change, ecological fragility, and human impact. Her paintings balance realism and expressionism through layered mark-making, light, and colour, creating landscapes that feel both familiar and unsettled. This inquiry continues into sculptural and installation work through clay, recycled materials, and earth-based processes, allowing ideas to move between two - and three - dimensional forms and into the landscape itself.
Parallel to her visual practice, her musical career under various projects, including MOONFOX, performs extensively across Ontario and Western Canada. Her music – often described as atmospheric, emotive, and experimental – shares thematic ground with her visual work, functioning as another language through which she explores place, emotion, and environmental consciousness.
Across all mediums, Fleury’s work is guided by a commitment to quiet activism – inviting reflection rather than instruction. Her practice encourages viewers and listeners alike to slow down, observe, and consider their connection to the ecosystems they inhabit.
